Hi, my name is Sarah Smith and I live in Johannesburg, which is in South Africa. I am 32 years old and I am an ESL teacher. I have taught English to foreigners for 5 years. I worked at a language school here in Johannesburg, but had to leave due to the schools financial problems and it broke my heart. At the school I mainly taught Angolans, Brazilians and Chinese. I am a teacher who puts a lot of effort into each lesson. I get to know what each student needs and wants. I choose topics that my students can relate to and can fully understand. I use a lot of visual aids, such as pictures, objects, gestures or even hand drawn pictures. Asking my students questions during my lessons is something I find very important & I encourage the student to answer as best as they can before correcting them. I love creating ways for the student to understand, I strongly believe that through association of things and situations that are relevant to the student, understanding & learning is made easy.
